Ethiopia, Guji - Washed

Gedeo Zone, Oromia Region

Like most coffees that are exported from Ethiopia, this coffee comes from many different small holders from a large area of land, within a particular region. In this case, Guji, a small part of the Oromio region. The majority of coffees that are grown in Ethiopia are not farmed in the same sense as other coffee producing nations. As it is the birthplace of coffee, the trees grow in the wild as they have done since before coffee was discovered.

When each of the small holders who harvest this coffee, pick the coffee cherries, they often strip-pick each branch, taking under, over and perfectly ripe cherries. This results in an assortment of different qualities when the coffee reaches the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) after pro-cessing. We’re lucky enough to be getting this washed Guji from well-respected producer who meticulously sorts it before exporting to roasters like us. This ensures a premium quality, not many roasters are able to pass on to their customers.

About this coffee

This Guji is vibrant, fruity, floral and highly aromatic just like our Kochere. It has a medium body with a sweet, wine-like acidity, a clean, sweet and fruity finish and is one of the most complex coffees we offer.  As an espresso, you’re going to get stone fruit and dark chocolate which is going to turn into cheesecake as a milk based beverage.
