PAPUA NEW GUINEA SIGRI BIG RED COFFEE
Welcoming our first and rare coffee from Papua New Guinea. Very large juicy coffee cherries aptly named Big Red, that have been separated out as a micro lot from the Sigri Estate.
Maragogype is a variety of Arabica coffee, also known as “elephant coffee beans”. It is thought this varietal is a spontaneous mutation from the better known Typica coffee varietal, that occurred in Maragogipe (Brazil) in the late 19th century. This is a VERY large size bean in comparison to other Arabica beans, a good 40% larger.
This particular coffee is rare, not because of its size, but due to the low supply and scarcity, along with the fact that it is more difficult to grow and maintain and has a very low yield. It prefers tropical environments and high altitudes, which makes Papua New Guinea a perfect location.
To wildly generalise, it is tricky to roast, has mild acidity, and really smooth flavors with a generous dose of sweetness.
The flavor depends on the soil and growing conditions where it grows. This coffee has beautiful obvious notes of passionfruit and a huge bold body. Hope you enjoy this coffee.
